Our families first Fish & Chip Shop was established 1963 and we have continued the same high standard of food and service since this date. We are re-knowned for it! It is what we do best!

Where does the name come from? Our father's name Ciriaco Forgione proved to be a bit of a tongue twister for the locals and so they named him Sid because he resembled Sid James from the 'Carry On' films. Sid's (Ciriaco's) three Sons inherited his passion and success in the Fish & Chip Shop industry and have since proved who does it best with Captain's (Hoddesdon), Nazeing Fish & Chips (Nazeing) and Mr Luigis (soon to be rebranded/refurbished - Harlow). 

For 18 years, Captain's Fish & Chips has been the go-to fish and chip shop in Hoddesdon, with the queue of customers snaking out of the door (particularly on a Friday and Saturday evening) the stuff of local legend. Sidney & Sons Fish & Chips seemed a natural progression to serve Hoddesdon at the Rye Road end. 

Brothers; Luigi, Libby & Tony Forgione opened Mr Luigis's in 1988, Captain's back in 1998 and Nazeing Fish & Chips in 2015. They are the third generation of their family to have been in the fish and chip business, so they know how to cook Britain’s traditional national takeaway dish to perfection. Mr Luigi's in 1990 was rated the Top 10 in the Daily Mirror. More recently, Captains fought their way to Top 10 National Awards winning their Region. Captain’s got to the final stage competing to be crowned no.1 fish and chip shop in the UK. After entering the annual awards in May 2017 Captain’s were delighted to become the winner of their region (Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire & Bedfordshire). Captain’s are now recognised as one of the top 10 fish & chip shops in the UK. The final hurdle was meeting the panel of 13 Judges on Jan 25th 2018 at the Lancaster Hotel London where they met the judges, to answer questions and do a 10 minute presentation. Although Captain's didn't take the UK no.1 title, they were delighted to be recognised as best in the region.
